S1851 - AN ACT RELATIVE TO THE ALCOHOL BEVERAGES CONTROL COMMISSION POSITION: The Association is in favor of increasing the number of liquor licenses REASONS: 1. This legislation does not increase the total number of licenses available in the Commonwealth. Each city and town would continue to maintain its quota of licenses and their local authority for granting or not granting licenses; 2. This legislation does not change the limitations of one corporation license per town and two corporation licenses per city restrictions; 3. Since cities and towns do not have many available licenses, this would make those currently held licenses more valuable; 4. It would allow consumers the convenience of purchasing alcohol (particularly beer and wine) along with their groceries as consumers in bordering states are currently able to do. 5. Companies that obtain more than three licenses would pay $5,000 to the ABCC upon approval of their application for this option, which could be used for enforcement and education.
