Roche Bros. Supermarkets receives the Dale Carnegie Leadership Award for Associate Development

Roche Bros., the Massachusetts-based supermarket chain, has received the Dale Carnegie Leadership award, an annual honor that recognizes companies that place special emphasis on the development of its associates, leadership and organizational creativity for the purposes of achieving its business objectives. The honor was presented to Ed and Rick Roche, co-owners of the supermarket chain along with the Roche Bros. management team and all Roche Bros. associates. It is the first time that this award has been presented to a company in this region.

With 18 stores throughout the state of Massachusetts, Roche Bros. won the Leadership award for the first time due to their devotion to continuous associate growth and stellar customer service. Roche Brothers encourages any full-time associate interested in being considered for a management position to complete the Dale Carnegie training program. Director of Training and Development Joe Curtin, who has been with the company for 39 years said, “As a Dale Carnegie graduate myself, we see the value that this program brings to build vital skills in our associates. These associates are the front line of our business and thus this reflects on our customers’  overall shopping experience. We support and run Dale Carnegie programs every year.” Roche Bros. was also voted as one of the Top Places to Work by the Boston Globe for the last four years.

Gary Pfeil, president of Roche Bros. Supermarkets and a graduate of Dale Carnegie himself, believes that the program helps associates immensely, improving their leadership and communication skills. “It’s amazing to see the growth of associates from their first class to graduation. Their personal growth helps contribute to Roche Bros.’ future,” said Pfeil.

Peter Handal, CEO of Dale Carnegie & Associates visited a Roche Bros. location one day and was astonished by the top-quality customer service he received from all associates upon his visit. He was particularly impressed with the supermarket’s business model. “Roche Bros. and Dale Carnegie carry out many of the same principles – both are family owned and both focus on the growth of their associates and customer service,” said Handal.

Handal went on to say of the high-quality supermarket chain, Roche Bros. is committed to providing excellent service and quality products to their customers, understanding  the value of its associates, and an unmatched sense of obligation that compels them to a high level of community involvement.”
