Provisions added to the House and Senate budget may soon allow for the use of coupons, discounts, rebates or vouchers towards co-payments for those purchasing prescription medicines.  Both the House and Senate budget proposals contain amended language that would reverse Massachusetts prohibition on the use of such discounts towards the purchase of prescription medicines.  When a Conference Committee is chosen to work out the differences between the House and Senate bills, this measure will remain in the final proposal, since it has been offered in each bill.  It must then be finally approved by the Legislature before being sent to the Governor, who has indicated in the past he would support such a measure.
