Food Donation Guidelines
Headquartered in Boston, MA, Lovin' Spoonfuls is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that facilitates the recovery and distribution of perishable and unserved foods that would otherwise be thrown away and wasted. Our focus is on nutritious food items including fresh produce, lean proteins and whole grains.
Handling perishable and prepared foods requires attention to detail and compliance with regulations set forth by the state of Massachusetts. Lovin' Spoonfuls employs professional drivers who are licensed, insured and ServSafe certified to operate our refrigerated vehicles.
All donated food gets delivered directly to local non-profit organizations (shelters and soup kitchens such as Pine Street Inn, Boston Rescue Mission, Haley House, and many others). Because we have to work within the donation time frames of the various beneficiaries, most of our food pick-ups occur on weekday mornings. See below for donation guidelines and information we will require to set up a new partnership with Lovin’ Spoonfuls.
Donor Guidelines (Recurring Pick-Up)
Items we can accept:
Fruits & Vegetables
Breads & Baked Goods
Individually Packaged Prepared Foods
Nothing can be opened, punctured or dripping
We do not accept food that is out of code or visibly spoiled
All donated product should be ready for pick-up in banana boxes or other sturdy containers that you will not need back
Please make sure there is no garbage or trash in any boxes or items for pick-up
Vendor must provide clear access for food pick-up on scheduled date and time
Any changes to the schedule must be communicated with as much advance notice as possible
If no pick-up is needed on a particular day, please contact Lovin' Spoonfuls
We strive for a seamless, unobtrusive pick-up to help you focus on your business. Please inform all staff members of Lovin’ Spoonfuls scheduled pick-up times and ensure that they are aware of these guidelines
Please note: on the day of the pick-up, Lovin' Spoonfuls drivers will make the final determination of what we can and cannot accept
