Charles L. D’Amour is President and Chief Operating Officer of Big Y Foods, Inc., a privately-owned supermarket chain, headquartered in Springfield, MA.

Charles, the son of Big Y co-founder Gerald E. D’Amour, began his career at an early age working his way through various positions in the supermarket up to store manager. After finishing school, Charles rejoined the company in 1978 where he held positions such as Produce Sales Manager and Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  In 1989 he was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and in 2006 he was promoted to President while retaining his position of Chief Operating Officer.

Throughout his career, Charles has been active in many civic, social and industry based organizations.  He is a Past Chairman and member of the Executive Committee of both the Massachusetts and the Connecticut Food Associations. He is a member of the Board and Governance Committee for TOPCO Associates, Inc., where he served as Chairman from 1999-2001. He was a Trustee from 2001 to 2012 and Board Chair from 2009 to 2011 of Baystate Health, an integrated health care system based in Springfield, MA.  From 1992-2008, Charles served on the board of Westover Metropolitan Development Corporation and served as Chair from 1999 – 2008.  He is a member of the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts and served as Chair from 2008 to 2010.  He was a Member from 2007 to 2013 of the New England Advisory Council for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and served as Chair for 2013.  Over the years, Charles has been involved with numerous groups such as the Visiting Nurse Foundation of Pioneer Valley, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, the Springfield YMCA, Community Music School of Springfield, and his local church as a member and past Chair of the Pastoral Council at St. Mary’s Church in Longmeadow, MA.

Charles holds a B.A. (cum laude) from Boston College, and in 1978, received a Juris Doctor from the New England School of Law in Boston.  He was admitted to the First District of the United States Federal District Court in 1979.

Charles and his wife Elizabeth have four adult children and seven grandchildren.
