2019 MASSACHUSETTS LEGAL HOLIDAYS

Public offices are closed on all of
these days or observed days. Certain holidays in the Commonwealth are subject to laws that restrict the type of work that can be conducted, as well as the kind of business and commercial activities that can operate on these
days. On holidays that are not subject to these laws, businesses and commercial activities may operate as usual.

NOVEMBER 11-  MONDAY $#!VETERAN’S DAY OPEN AFTER 1:00PM

NOVEMBER 28 - THURSDAY @THANKSGIVING DAY CLOSE ALL DAY

DECEMBER 25 - WEDNESDAY @CHRISTMAS DAY CLOSE ALL DAY

$ Retail hourly wages - must be paid at the rate of 1.4 TIMES the employees regular rate of
pay on these holidays and all Sundays. It drops from 1.5 times the employees regular rate.
# Retail work - is voluntary on these holidays (& Sundays). Work can be required on other listed
holidays (unless closed).

! Restrictive hours - Companies may operate all day on these holidays by obtaining a local permit.
@Alcohol Sales – OFF PREMISE LICENSEES MAY REMAIN OPEN UNTIL 11:30PM THE DAY BEFORE ANY
HOLIDAY. SALES ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THANKSGIVING DAY AND CHRISTMAS DAY AND BEFORE NOON
ON MEMORIAL DAY. STATEWIDE SALES ARE ALLOWED ON SUNDAYS AFTER THE HOUR OF 10:00AM
(local restrictions may apply). THOSE WITH MORE THAN 7 EMPLOYEES MUST ADHERE TO $ AND #.
THE SALE OF GOODS ON THOSE DAYS AND TIMES NOT ALLOWED (UNLESS A PERMIT IS
ACQUIRED) ARE SUBJECT TO A FINE OF NOT LESS THAN $20 NOR MORE THAN $100 FOR THE
1ST OFFENSE, AND NOT LESS THAN $50 NOR MORE THAN $200 FOR EACH SUBSEQUENT
OFFENSE. EACH SALE OF AN ITEM CONSTITUTES A SEPARATE OFFENSE.
ALL DAYS LISTED ARE BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL HOLIDAYS (EXCEPT FOR PATRIOT’S DAY –
A STATE HOLIDAY ONLY).
Daylight savings time begins Sunday, March 10, 2019 and ends Sunday, November 3, 2019.
