A message from Greg Ferrqra - NGA’s President and CEO
Thursday, September 05, 2019 -

Today marks the start of my first official week as NGA’s President and CEO.  I’m grateful for Peter Larkin’s leadership and many years of selfless service to our industry.  Maybe most important, I’m thankful for his friendship and mentorship.  I know you join me in wishing Peter and Jody happiness in retirement.

I also want to personally thank each of you for your support of NGA.  I realize how competitive the marketplace is today and that you make a choice every year to write that dues check to NGA.  Because of your support NGA continues to experience strong membership growth, and in turn, together we are a strong community.  Please know that we value your membership and thank you for allowing NGA the opportunity to serve your company and the independent supermarket industry.  As you focus on growing your business and serving your community know that NGA has your back and is working every day to keep government out of your business and ensuring a level playfield where you can compete.

Our industry isn’t without challenges and I know competition today for the food dollar is fierce, but I also believe independents have a lot of opportunities for growth.  Your association will be reinvesting in key areas, including advocacy and resources for members to stay ahead of the changes in the marketplace, to help you grow and succeed.  We will continue to be a strong voice for independent supermarkets in Washington, DC and around the country, but we can’t do it without your help.

My personal request for you is that you get more involved in NGA and our industry (including your state grocer association).  It can be as simple as taking action through NGA’s grassroots portal (www.grocerstakeaction.org) or signing up to host your Members of Congress for a store tour.  Become a member of our Grocers PAC or Advocacy and Legal Fund.  Consider participating in an NGA share group or listen in on one of our various educational webinars.  And please make plans today to join me and over 3,500 of our industry colleagues in San Diego for the 2020 NGA Show (www.thengashow.com).  I had a chance this week to review the educational content for the 2020 Show and I can tell you I’m excited about the great educational program as well as some new areas of focus on the Expo floor that are going to be very beneficial for our attendees.

Thank you again for your support and I look forward to working together to grow NGA for the benefit of our industry.  If I can ever be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me directly via email or phone (direct dial: 703-516-8811).  I, along with a great team of passionate professionals here at NGA, stand ready to serve.
