MA FISCAL STATE

Governor Healey has until Thursday, August 10 to act on the state’s $56.2 billion FY ’24 budget that was presented to her by the legislature’s budget conference committee July 31 for the fiscal year that has been in effect since July 1 and supported by supplemental budgets since that time.  Meanwhile the state still awaits tax revenue reports for June, after the MA DOR reported earlier that month that tax collections 11 months into the fiscal year were running $583 million behind projections used last year to draft the fiscal 2023 state budget.  The FY ’24 budget is a 6.6%, or $3.5 billion increase over the FY ’23 budget.  Both the House and Senate have agreed to disagree about any deliberations in the near future on a tax relief proposal, and will most likely address the issue in the fall at the earliest.
